Man, the hills around Philly s/xx0rs. Jeff and I went for a short ride yesterday, 32 miles or so … and the highlight was the flat bit in the middle, the bike path. The hills to and from killed me. I bonked, first time of the season. And I remember when 32 miles actually was short …
I was in PA for this past weekend, primarily for the Reed family reunion. We had booked Menlo Park, a local park that’s quite park-y, near a water park, with ample parking. The people we booked with messed up though, so we had it at my Uncle Denny’s ranch. I’m happy to see family, of course, but the highlight for me was when several Bergey cousins showed up with brood. I love brood. They play, like, forever. I mean, I played fetch with Isaiah and Elijah for at least an hour.
There was football, and soccer, and wiffleball (man, was Dolores a sport!). And Great Fun Was Had By All. Pics coming soon!
Of course, when we got home Mom wanted to rent Porky’s 2: The Revenge. Sigh.
So what’s new today? Dr Horrible, that’s what. Starting July 15, you too can watch Neil Patrick Harris battle Nathan Fillion in the campy sing-along style made famous by, well, Once More, With Feeling. Need to get your Joss Whedon? Get it on on an intertube near you! Here’s an article with a ton more detail … I’m all a-tingle. Something good came out of the writer’s strike after all …
Not a lot of posts here in the past two weeks, mostly due to the Race Across America (I was crewing). Our racer, Doug Levy, finished, and joined the less than 200 people who have ever pedaled across the country. Check out the blog I managed throughout the event — including pictures!
On the way home today, on the moto (now street legal and all lubed and cleaned and such), I was pelted by hail and rain all the way from Jersey to Brooklyn. Yowch! After a few long weeks of work-work-work-get-the-racer-up-how-many-miles-left-ooh-piece-of-candy, Jeff and I got the motos in working order and I saw him off to PA. Now, normally I’m Mr Prepared on the moto, but I thought it would just be a wee ride, and we had already dodged one storm, so why not just wear the mesh jacket and gloves, rain gear be d@mned. Well, we got hit by a storm right after getting into NJ, and I had to turn right around and go back through.
The first time through, we were going West and the storm was going East, so we were through it quickly. On my way back though, it got worse … and drivers were gettin’ a-scairt so I had to roll through at 10 mph. Shudder. I was freezing … and then it started hailing. I was pelted — one hit me in the nipple. Now that’s pain!
Long story short, the rain was done by the time I got home, but I was left with a memento … my lovely mesh/leather JR jacket bled red all over my arms and hands. I am so pretty, with my red arms and hands.
We’re here in Cali, prepping for RAAM … you may notice a dearth of posts for a while. That’s because we’re doing the race, silly. Please visit Doug Levy’s “Team CCI” blog (maintained by me and Jeff) for updates on where we’re at, or read the Twitter badge to the right.
See you soon!
On Thurday I fly out to San Diego to crew for Doug Levy. Doug is going to ride his bicycle from Oceanside, CA to Annapolis, MD, in about 12 days. Yep, you read that right, 12 days. I’m medical crew, my buddy Jeff is the bike tech, and there are a few others on our team. It’s our job to keep him alive, healthy, and moving quickly across America.
I got a new DSLR camera for the trip, and I’ll be posting pictures and blog entries as we move across the country. If you’re interested, check it out.
If you’re near Annapolis on the 20th (give or take a day) I’ll send you details on the finish line. It’d be great to see you!
I’ve decided to try some advanced blogging techniques (sigh – I don’t know if I get or lose g33k points for this phrase, or if I even want to get more, or lose more); this is a test. The pic that should be part of this post is from last week’s Urban Blight show … I’m quite proud of these pics, with my new Nikon DSLR, and Paulie’s awesome midrange zoom lens. Let me know what you think!
