Hope y’all had a happy Thanksgiving. Red and I got ourselves down to sunny Florida for some family time, and found ourselves at the Brevard County Zoo. There are some pics up from us feeding the birds in the aviary … check ‘em out!
Or maybe this should be the “funniest thing” department? While doing a google on “deprotonate” (to be sure I’m spelling it right), I came across this, as the second result right after the Wikipedia entry. It’s a cover of an Avril Lavigne song, with the lyrics wittily redone. It’s all about hydrogen chloride:
Why d’you have to go and get so deprotonated?
I see the way you’re
Split into your ions and you’re fully dissociated …
It’s hilarious!
I made the best d@mned chicken ever, tonight. Start with an organic whole roaster from Fresh Direct, brine it with sugar and salt and spices, mix this recipe and this one, minus the stuffing and filling the cavity with fresh herbs and garlic, going nuts on the bacon “cover”, pulling the bacon after 40 minutes, and tossing some of it back in with 25 minutes left, chopped, with some fingerling potatoes and scallions and fresh rosemary and thyme … and all that bacon grease made for an amazing base for a gravy once the chicken was pulled. More tender and sweet and savory than you could believe.
I want to do a turkey now!
Wow. I’ve been a loyal Skype user for about two years now. I’ve loved it for quite some time. I thought their SkypeIn service was da beezy, as it let me have a 718 phone number without shelling out mad money to a telecom to feed their executives. But this service went from $12 (year one) to $38 (year two) to, now, brace yourself for it, $60. Just for a phone number? And what are they giving me for this nigh-50% increase in pricing? Nothing. If I want voicemail its even more money. Of course they now have a “SkypePRO” package, which gives you a bit more for around the same price, but it’s too much.
I’m jumping ship to someone cheaper. I can’t deal with this unapologetic price hiking. I suggest you do the same. So if I gave you an old 718 number, it’ll be bunk in mid-December.
I’m looking at Gizmo ($25 cheaper for the same service) … and a few others … and believe me, people all over the world are as outraged as I am. And Skype isn’t even apologizing. I hope they lose a lot of customers …
Mmm. Some hot chick cooked me Rachel Ray’s Frutti di Mare on Wednesday night (and bonus! She sent me home with leftovers!). It was frikkin’ awesome, and was capped with Tyler’s Ultimate Garlic Bread. We’re talking real mussels steamed in the homemade red sauce with crab, and fresh fresh shrimp. Dang. This cooking stuff is just plain fun. It was her turn, though, and she kicked food butt.
Of course I’m still full, two days later.
