Woo, nice weekend, all told. Yesterday I saw the Harry Potter — the movie’s aces, go see it. The wizard battle at the end was exactly how I expected one to look.
Today was a Braking the Cycle training ride, which finished at The Center. Once there we got some body clinic (yoga and stretchies) and bike clinic (how to do some minor maintenance). Plus, as a training ride leader I got a free tune-up. The TriX, she hums. Of course, the skies opened up on our way home. *sigh*
And oh yeah, I beat Gears of War this weekend.
I know it’s Wednesday, but I’m going to go ahead and write about the weekend. Last weekend, to be specific.
A chill Friday night led into an early Saturday, which saw me driving to PA for the Schlossman family reunion. It was good to see Mom and Jeff of course, and it was GREAT to spend the entire afternoon in Jack’s pool. I took a few pictures … we’ve got Nic’s new daughter Anna May, Jack jumping into the pool, and the svelte new Terry.
After the reunion I high-tailed it to Jeff’s for some beers at the Comet, and to give him his birthday present. Sunday morning was a treat — the Cannondale truck was hanging out near Fairmount Park, and they let me borrow the new Rush to ride all day. I thoroughly abused her.
After that there was BBQ at Tommy Gunn’s, and a picnic/planning session for the upcoming 2008 Race Across America (Jeff’s the crew chief, and I’ll be doing medical).
A full weekend … little exposition … but hopefully you get the picture!
Also … newer pics of The Backyard Project are up. I have to take some more now that I actually have *gasp!* grass!
And since we’re catching up on pics … here’s some from 2 weeks ago, the new Active Summer Saturdays program. Fun in the park with the cool kids.
If you’re plugged in to the newsphere (or live anywhere within sight of midtown), you’ve heard about the massive steampipe explosion near Grand Central Station in Manhattan. The first thoughts on everyone’s mind: terror. Everyone was worried about “another 9/11″. But in the best interests of keeping additional ammo from the Bush cadre, it was just an random disaster. Phew.
Still, dozens were hurt and IIRC, there was one fatality due to a cardiac incident. While I’m glad that this was no terrorist attack, I recognize that this was a tragedy. Midtown is still a bit of a mess, as well.
To my family members that called me, worried: I was volunteering last night at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in the Pediatric Emergency Dept. So I wasn’t near the incident. Had I been on the ambulance (like tonight), I may have had to go assist … but it’s unlikely. But thank you for your concern!
To my friends who didn’t call or email … thbdddddt!
… this city, it’ll kill you if you’re not strong enough.
This city, it doesn’t discriminate. It gets everybody. {pause} I’ve got to go, I’ve got a call. We’re all dying, Mary Burke.
The new Braking The Cycle promo video is up on YouTube! Please go check it out. And if you don’t get choked up by what some of these riders have to say, I’ll be surprised. More info on the upcoming ride (September!) can be found here.
